The German armed forces have acquired examples for evaluation. The third prototype was powered by 375 shp MTU 6022 turboshafts, but the production model has standardized on the Allison 250. Production is undertaken by the Siebel-werke-ATG subsidiary of MBB and some 140 BO 105s had been flown by the beginning of 1975. A seven-seat derivative, the BO 106, was flown on September 25, 1973.
