Medium-haul commercial transport. Principal current production model of the Trident at the beginning of 1974 was the 2E which was being built against orders for 33 (plus two Super 3Bs) for the People’s Republic of China. The first Trident 2E flew on July 27, 1967, 15 subsequently being delivered to British Airways (BEA) and two to Cyprus Airways.
The Trident 2E differs from the earlier Trident 1C and 1E (see 1966 edition) in having uprated engines, increased weighs, Kucheman wingtips and increased span, fuel and weights, Twenty-four Trident ICs and 15 1Es were built. The Trident 3B (see 1973 edition) is a high capacity short haul development of the Trident 1E with a stretched fuselage and similar power plants and wing modifications to those of the 2E. Twenty-six Trident 3Bs were built for British Airways (BEA) with the last being delivered in April 1973. The Trident Super 3B offers accommodation for 152 passengers and carries additional fuel in the wing centre section.
