First of four prototypes flown December 23. 1986. First of 105 ordered for Armée de l’air flown February 15. 1973. Production rate of four-five per month at beginning of 1975. Licence manufacture is to be undertaken in South Africa with deliveries commencing 1977. Initial model for Armée de l’air intended primarily for high-altitude intercept role. Proposed versions include F1A for day ground attack role, the F1B two-seat trainer, the F1C interceptor and the 18.740 lb (8 500 kg) with reheat M53-powered multi-role F1E version, the last-mentioned having been scheduled to fly in December 1974. Fifteen Mirage F1s have been ordered by Spain (which country has an option on 18 more), 40 by Greece and 20 by Kuwait, and delivery of 16 Mirage F1CZ interceptors to South Africa began late 1974; these are to be followed by 32 Mirage F1AZ ground attack fighters.
